Dyslexia Organization Kenya – News and Events

Dyslexia Organization Kenya (DOK) has in the past held a number of activities to create awareness on the existence of dyslexia in Kenya. The most recent event, held on April 9, 2016, at the Alma Hotel, Kitengela, was a teachers training workshop on early diagnosis and intervention and deveDyslexia Organization Kenya Logoloping an IEP for learners with dyslexia. The training brought together over 40 participants (parents and teachers) from Kajiado County.

In line with the organization’s mission, DOK has intensified its desire to engage the general public and raise awareness of dyslexia to address the needs of the pupils, youth, and adults in Kenya who have dyslexia. Some examples of DOK’s activities in this area follow:

  1. Media campaign (audio and visual): DOK staff have been actively engaged in radio and television interviews, shows and forums focusing on learning disabilities and especially dyslexia. Both national and vernacular media were visited.
  2. Information sharing meetings: DOK held training workshops, seminars, and parent meetings in schools. A number of teachers and parents were trained on and engaged in identifying and intervening on behalf of students with dyslexia.
